Rugby News January 2011
Rugby continues to grow in Presentation College Athenry. This year we are lucky to have welcomed a new sponsor on board in VP Shields. The Juniors have competed in a number of games this year. We took part in a local schools blitz in Monivea were the team acquitted itself well. The team later had an excellent draw against Athlone Community College in Athlone. The final score line was twenty points apiece, with Cian O’Baoill and Damien Culkin among the shining lights on the day.The senior team recently played St. Gerlads of Castlebar in a highly competive game. The team despite a great performace narrowly lost out by twenty two points to fourteen. The entire team gave a fantastic performance with Stephen Joyce and Oisin Morgan leading the way. Cathal Cronin kicked two penalties and Marc Cleary kicked another along with a try.
The first and second years will be playing a in a number of tournaments between now and the end of the year.
A number of our players have also representd the provience with distinction. Marc Cleary represented the Connacht schools team while Niall Quinn and Stephen Joyce continue in the Connacht development squads.
