Students who received an 'A' grade in JC Business Studies were honoured for their achievement in NUIG on Wed 15th Oct. The awards recognise students who receive the highest grade possible and are in the top 9% of students who sat the papers in the Junior Cert. JC Business Studies is the only non-core subject where students sit 2 papers over 4.5 hours so this achievement is highly commendable. 25 PCA students achieved an 'A' grade in the JC - well above the national average. We would like to thank Emer Treacy, Monica Moroney, Gary O'Donnell and Pat Hanrahan who were the teachers of these students.
|On Monday 14th October our Transition Year students were privileged to meet with and hear about the life of Mark Pollock during his visit to the Athenry Pastoral Centre.
Ten years after losing his sight at 22, Mark Pollock became the first blind person to race to the South Pole. The psychological impact of that success put blindness behind him - he moved on with his life and became engaged to his girlfriend Simone. Just four weeks before their wedding, a terrible fall left Mark paralysed from the waist down. An emotional and fascinating film tells the remarkable story of the couple rebuilding their lives and searching for a cure for spinal injury.
Our students were given a special preview screening of the film which was followed by a Q & A session with Mark, Simone and the producer of the film, Ross Whitaker. Following this Presentation College students and staff presented Mark, Simone and Ross with some gifts to show the school’s appreciation for them attending this special event.
